After a 'minor' heart attack, Roger Marks underwent successful triple bypass surgery at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, and has now returned home to recuperate for three months. He's able to practice on his trombone and hopes to return to playing in the New Year.
Meanwhile various band commitments will be honoured in full. John Shillito will lead the Armada Jazz Band in Roger's absence, and Graham Trevarton will look after the Cornish and New Orleans Armada variants.
Roger wishes to thank profusely all those kind folks near and far who have phoned and sent 'get well' cards full of encouragement.

Re-formed in 1992 by public demand, Roger Marks' Armada Jazz Band have long been established at the forefront of Britain's traditional Jazz scene. Enjoying great popularity around the jazz festivals, they have also benefited from good CD airplay from the BBC in particular, and the magazine critics have generously acknowledged the band's performance standards with some stunning rave reviews in the jazz press.

The leader's philosophy is to use the musicians' fulsome talents to make a unique style of traditional Jazz, free from constraint or taboo, and to perform it with great skill, verve and enthusiasm.

As befits the busy schedule of a successful working band, the datesheet includes all kinds of bookings, from wedding reception to garden party, from dinner dance to corporate promotion and from summer ball to riverboat shuffle, where initial contact is, more often than not, the result of the personal recommendation of a satisfied customer.
